June was amazing. I felt inspired but wasn’t sure how to start, so I took it easy. I opened my drawer full of patterns and landed on one. I was in desperate need of some short-sleeve tops as summer was creeping in.
Sometimes I work with precious fabrics, and I want to make sure I choose the right one for each project. This decision can often be overwhelming, causing me to close the door to my sewing room. Each time I encounter this creative block, I try to approach it differently. This time, I decided to sew the same project repeatedly, and it worked.
I printed the Agustina boxy top pattern four years ago but never committed to it because it seemed too simple and needed high-quality fabric. I even made a mockup to see how it would look and fit in person. I’m not a big fan of the kimono-style sleeves, as they tend to look very baggy. I know, I shouldn’t complain—it’s in the title, it’s a boxy top—but I needed to sew something more than I needed the end result.
The hardest part was choosing the fabric, as I didn’t want to ruin any of my pretty ones. I ended up using viscose for this project because I knew that if I made a mistake, I could easily buy more of this particular print.
The pattern is from fabrics-store.com, and the fabric is from Self Made.

I liked the first top so much that I made a second one from viscose as well.
The pattern is easy to follow, requiring only a small amount of fabric, and can be completed in just two hours. I found that it’s best to cut the cuffs by measuring the circumference of the sleeves; this way, you can avoid having to cut them twice due to being too narrow. This issue might be because I used a flimsy fabric—linen or cotton, which tend to be more structured, might prevent this problem.
I also made one more adjustment because I wanted the hem to match the cuffs. I added six more centimetres and created a five-centimetre hem.
